Getac Announces 5-Year Warranty For All Getac Fully Rugged Notebook Computers

January 4th, 2010

Getac, a leading innovator and manufacturer of rugged computers, announced today that it will offer a new 5-year warranty, as standard, on its complete line of fully rugged notebook computers and tablets, delivered on or after January 1, 2010. The new Getac 5-year warranty protection will allow Getac customers to enjoy the benefit of a 2-year warranty extension at no additional cost – a far superior offering to the typical 3-year warranties provided in the rugged industry today.

Getac’s line of fully rugged notebook computers and tablets are among the most reliable in the industry, an impressive accomplishment when considering the extreme environments that Getac products are typically used in. “The new 5-year warranty is a statement of confidence to the reliability of Getac rugged computers,” explains Peter Molyneux, Business Development Director, Getac UK. “Typically, computers have been upgraded on a three-year cycle. But with today’s economic climate, customers are opting to keep assets into the fourth and fifth year. Getac’s new 5-year warranty will enable Getac users and corporate purchasing departments to better plan IT budgets, ensuring there are no hidden costs and full use of the equipment over its lifetime. In addition, we’re providing the reassurance that the total cost of owning our products is essentially ‘all-inclusive’ for five years.”

The new Getac 5-year warranty will also allow customers to minimise downtime while maximising profitability, particularly in large utility and government organisations whose process for requesting and receiving spending approval to repair an out-of-warranty computer is a time-consuming process. Offering the 5-year warranty provides IT departments with the opportunity to better manage its assets by knowing the projected costs of a computer’s lifespan at the time of purchase. The new Getac 5-year warranty underlines the company’s focus on quality and customer satisfaction.

Getac Announces Fully Rugged Notebooks and Tablet PCS Receive MiL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F And IP 65 Military Certification

November 17th, 2009

Getac has announced that its line of notebook computers and Tablet PCs has been MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65 certified by an independent testing lab to withstand severe environmental conditions. These standards were established by the military to ensure minimum performance standards for any product used by agencies and organizations within the Department of Defense.

To ensure absolute performance in any environment, Getac conducts its own internal testing processes with standards that go beyond those established by the Department of Defense on their line of rugged notebooks and Tablet PCs. Making sure the products withstand real-world environments and challenges in the field is top priority. As a result, Getac’s products surpassed grueling test in the certification process including a series of 78 consecutive drops from as high as 6 feet, sustained exposure to blowing rain, sand, and dust, exposure to extreme heat, cold, and condensation, and a variety of shock and vibration testing.

Getac products receiving MIL-STD-810G certification include its A790, B300, and M230 rugged notebooks, V100 rugged convertible notebook, E100 rugged Tablet PC, and PS535 rugged Handheld.

In addition to receiving MIL-STD-810G certification, the B300 Notebook, V100 Convertible, and PS535F GPS Handheld each received Ingress Protection (IP65) certification for dust and water resistance. Conducted by a recognized independent laboratory testing facility, the IP6x testing (for dust) was conducted in a dust chamber for 8 hours using talcum powder with units in the Off position. The IPx5 testing (for water) was conducted by using pressurized water from every conceivable angle at a rate of 3.3 gallons per minute.

Getac’s B300 / M230 / A790 Notebooks, and V100 Convertible also received MIL-STD-461F certification for immunity against magnetic fields.

“We are pleased that our rugged computing products exceeded military certification standards as well as our own standards which are often more strict than those imposed by the Department of Defense,” explains Peter Molyneux, Business Development Director, Getac UK. “Receiving these independent certifications, along with our recent announcement of Resistive Multi-touch technology, assures our customers that Getac continues to offer innovative products that can endure and perform under the most extreme environmental conditions,” Molyneux added.

Getac units certified for use with Windows 7

    October 19th, 2009

Getac announces complete line of rugged notebooks and tablet PCs are fully compatible with Microsoft Windows 7

Taipei Taiwan, October 19, 2009 — Getac, a leading innovator and manufacturer of rugged computers that meet the demands of field-based applications, announced today that its complete line of rugged notebook computers and tablet PCs are fully compatible with Microsoft’s long-awaited Windows 7 Operating System. Getac engineers spent more than six months with Microsoft developers to ensure its product line would maximize all the features, functions, and performance of Windows 7, right out of the box. In addition, Windows 7 will enhance Getac’s newly-introduced Resistive Multi-Touch technology with an entire library of identified gestures for keyboard-free PC operation, even with industrial gloves.

Certified by Microsoft, Getac’s Resistive Multi-Touch technology supports Windows 7 operating system, by using a series of single touch, dual touch, “flick,” and application gestures so users of Getac products can quickly and easily perform numerous on-screen tasks such as move, copy, delete, zoom, and rotate by simply touching the screen and performing the task desired with their fingers. Unlike commonly used capacitive multi-touch technology, resistive multi-touch technology can perform these actions, and many others while wearing protective gloves, making it ideal for industrial and field professionals who work with dangerous chemicals or perform their job in extreme weather conditions. Even with gloves, the sensitivity and accuracy of the multi-touch screen is extremely high. The screen features 2048×2048 resolution, 100 points per second report rate, and less than 35ms response time.

“Working closely with Microsoft, we were able to voice the needs of our customers to ensure that our resistive Multi-touch function works hand-in-hand with their Windows 7 operating system. We have seen the excitement over the launch of Windows 7 increase exponentially and are excited to be a part of it right from the start, said James Hwang, President of Getac Technology Corporation. “In addition, we continue to advance our technology with the introduction of the Getac V100, the industrial’s first rugged laptop with resistive multi-touch panel. We will soon enable this feature to our full product line.”

To catch the shifting trend to Windows 7 operating systems, Getac rugged products including 9213, A790, M230, V100, and B300 will be Windows 7 compatible beginning on the Operating System’s availability date of October 22, 2009.

The new Microsoft operating system Windows 7 incorporates hundreds of improvements designed to maximize the overall performance of Getac’s line of rugged Notebook PCs and Tablet PCs. It offers easy access to WiFi networks, reduced battery consumption, faster startup and shutdown times, and a faster and more responsive 64-bit driver. Numerous features included in Windows 7 will enhance the overall performance of Getac products. In short, Windows 7 is responsive, reliable, and runs smoothly, and will allow field workers to work smarter, faster and more efficiently.

    Getac announces multi-touch display technology

    October 19th, 2009

Getac announces a technology breakthrough with resistive-type multi-touch technology for “hands-on” applications with or without gloves.

Getac Inc.,  a leading innovator and manufacturer of rugged computers that meet the demands of field-based applications, announced that its line of rugged TabletPCs will be the first rugged computers to offer a Multi-Touch screen for use with or without gloves. Having Multi-Touch technology on Getac’s V100 Tablet PC will allow users to move and edit documents, rotate maps and photos, zoom in and zoom out the maintenance manuals, and navigate numerous system applications by using a series of “gestures” with their fingers.

The new Multi-Touch technology uses a series of single touch, dual touch, “flick,” and application gestures.  Users of Getac’s V100 Tablet PC will now be able to quickly and easily perform numerous on-screen tasks such as move, copy, delete, zoom, and rotate by simply touching the screen and performing the task desired with their fingers.  Getac’s Resistive Multi-Touch technology is not based on capacitance sensitivity, which means users can perform these actions, and many others while wearing protective gloves.  This makes it ideal for industrial and field professionals who work with dangerous chemicals or perform their job in extreme weather conditions.  Even with gloves, the sensitivity and accuracy of the multi-touch screen is extremely high. The screen features 2048×2048 resolution, 100 points per second report rate, and less than 35ms response time.

“Our customers work in some of the most extreme environments and weather conditions where touch screen technology and flick gestures are faster, safer, and more convenient than using a keypad,” says Jim Rimay, president, Getac.  “As a leading innovator in advanced rugged computer technology, it is only fitting that Getac is the first to offer Multi-Touch technology that can be used with or without gloves,” added Rimay.

Getac’s Multi-Touch technology will also offer complete compatibility with Microsoft’s Windows 7 when it is launched later this month.
