Steatite has agreed to loan a Getac V100 laptop to Neil McDonald and Radek Dusatko’s “Climbing for a Cure” expedition. There will be, in addition, several ascents of Ben Nevis and the Cairngorms.

The sole purpose of the “Climbing for a Cure” expedition is to raise funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF; website address is www.jdrf.org.uk). The expedition is self-funded, meaning all proceeds will be going to the JDRF charity. Neil McDonald and Radek Dusatko will be part of a larger group of climbers for the duration of the three main ascents.

Getac V100Steatite have agreed to provide one Getac V100 rugged laptop to their expedition. The team will also film and edit a ‘video diary’ and have plans to update a Blog and social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook whilst in the mountains/at high altitude.

With an Ultra Low Voltage Intel® Core 2™ Duo processor, the V100 boasts a quiet fan-less design with the power needed for sophisticated software applications. The V100 is housed in a magnesium alloy case and features a removable hard drive and high portability 2.2 kg weight along with the lower power consumption Intel Core Duo 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB DRAM and a 120 GB hard drive. Getac Announces 5-Year Warranty For All Getac Fully Rugged Notebook Computers

January 4th, 2010

Getac, a leading innovator and manufacturer of rugged computers, announced today that it will offer a new 5-year warranty, as standard, on its complete line of fully rugged notebook computers and tablets, delivered on or after January 1, 2010. The new Getac 5-year warranty protection will allow Getac customers to enjoy the benefit of a 2-year warranty extension at no additional cost – a far superior offering to the typical 3-year warranties provided in the rugged industry today.

Getac’s line of fully rugged notebook computers and tablets are among the most reliable in the industry, an impressive accomplishment when considering the extreme environments that Getac products are typically used in. “The new 5-year warranty is a statement of confidence to the reliability of Getac rugged computers,” explains Peter Molyneux, Business Development Director, Getac UK. “Typically, computers have been upgraded on a three-year cycle. But with today’s economic climate, customers are opting to keep assets into the fourth and fifth year. Getac’s new 5-year warranty will enable Getac users and corporate purchasing departments to better plan IT budgets, ensuring there are no hidden costs and full use of the equipment over its lifetime. In addition, we’re providing the reassurance that the total cost of owning our products is essentially ‘all-inclusive’ for five years.”

The new Getac 5-year warranty will also allow customers to minimise downtime while maximising profitability, particularly in large utility and government organisations whose process for requesting and receiving spending approval to repair an out-of-warranty computer is a time-consuming process. Offering the 5-year warranty provides IT departments with the opportunity to better manage its assets by knowing the projected costs of a computer’s lifespan at the time of purchase. The new Getac 5-year warranty underlines the company’s focus on quality and customer satisfaction.

Getac Announces Fully Rugged Notebooks and Tablet PCS Receive MiL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F And IP 65 Military Certification

November 17th, 2009

Getac has announced that its line of notebook computers and Tablet PCs has been MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65 certified by an independent testing lab to withstand severe environmental conditions. These standards were established by the military to ensure minimum performance standards for any product used by agencies and organizations within the Department of Defense.

To ensure absolute performance in any environment, the Getac laptop is subjected to a number of rigorous internal testing processes with standards that go beyond those established by the Department of Defense on their line of rugged notebooks and Tablet PCs. Making sure the products withstand real-world environments and challenges in the field is top priority. As a result, Getac’s products surpassed grueling test in the certification process including a series of 78 consecutive drops from as high as 6 feet, sustained exposure to blowing rain, sand, and dust, exposure to extreme heat, cold, and condensation, and a variety of shock and vibration testing.

Getac products receiving MIL-STD-810G certification include its A790, B300, and M230 rugged notebooks, V100 rugged convertible notebook, E100 rugged Tablet PC, and PS535 rugged Handheld.

In addition to receiving MIL-STD-810G certification, the B300 Notebook, V100 Convertible, and PS535F GPS Handheld each received Ingress Protection (IP65) certification for dust and water resistance. Conducted by a recognized independent laboratory testing facility, the IP6x testing (for dust) was conducted in a dust chamber for 8 hours using talcum powder with units in the Off position. The IPx5 testing (for water) was conducted by using pressurized water from every conceivable angle at a rate of 3.3 gallons per minute.

Getac’s B300 / M230 / A790 Notebooks, and V100 Convertible also received MIL-STD-461F certification for immunity against magnetic fields.

“We are pleased that our rugged computing products exceeded military certification standards as well as our own standards which are often more strict than those imposed by the Department of Defense,” explains Peter Molyneux, Business Development Director, Getac UK. “Receiving these independent certifications, along with our recent announcement of Resistive Multi-touch technology, assures our customers that Getac continues to offer innovative products that can endure and perform under the most extreme environmental conditions,” Molyneux added.

The Kinysis is the new computing force behind the best field service teams. From utility industries such as electrical and cable services, to the transportation of raw materials or finished goods, to oil and gas exploration, to nuclear power monitoring systems – the versatile Kinysis has the power to move your business forward.

Available in two touchscreen versions – 1/2-SVGA or full-sized WVGA – the Kinysis tablet efficiently packs powerful features into its compact size.  Measuring only 23 centimeters wide and weighing just over 1.4 kilograms, it is fully rugged and features Windows Embedded Standard operating system, modular technology for easy customisation, standard wireless communications, and a hot-swappable battery.

This fully rugged computer meets MIL-STD-810F testing for environmental engineering considerations, including free-fall drop resistance, immersion, rain, humidity and vibration. Sealed to IP67, DAP’s Kinysis can withstand immersion in up to 1 meter of water and emerge with full functionality.

Ideally suited for field service operations, the Kinysis computer can increase productivity by giving teams the ability to process customer requests and track inventory in the field, access mapping and how-to guides on demand, communicate with main databases in real time, or collect data and synchronise it later. Batteries in the Kinysis are hot-swappable, with battery life designed to last a full 8-hour shift.

The Kinysis computer runs on a Windows Embedded Standard operating system with an LX800 processor and a high-speed solid-state drive up to 32GB. Customers can tailor the Kinysis tablet within the sealed expansion bay by adding custom electronic modules that utilise either a serial interface or USB port.

Kinysis screen options include either a color TFT half-SVGA LCD display with a tactile QWERTY keyboard, or a color TFT full-sized WVGA LCD display. The anti-glare passive touch screens on both models are scratch- and shock-resistant, and can be operated by either stylus or finger.

The Universal Imager is an all-in-one option that provides a 3-megapixel color camera with auto-focus and video capture. It can photograph still images in a variety of lighting conditions, and reads 1D/2D barcodes and OCR fonts.

Field computing is expedited via the Kinysis’ wireless communications technology with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® standard in each unit, and optional 3G wireless broadband and GPS. Vehicle docking cradles that meet exacting European safety standards are available.
